What are the risk factors for arrhythmia?

Arrhythmia

Anyone can develop an arrhythmia, but certain risk factors can contribute to its development:

  • Heart disease,
  • Poorly controlled diabetes or hypertension,
  • Thyroid diseases, including hyperthyroidism,
  • Chronic lung disease,
  • An unbalanced diet and poor physical condition,
  • Intensive practice of endurance sports,
  • Excess of exciting substances (coffee, alcohol, tobacco, drugs...).

Having arrhythmias when your heart is otherwise healthy (without malformations, arteriosclerosis, heart murmur or associated pathologies) is, in general, always better prognosis than when it has already suffered from hypertension, heart attack, heart failure, etc.
